Contributions will also help to fund increased operational expenses, including regular COVID-19 testing and other special health services like ECGs and cardiac MRIs, mental health services, technology support for virtual classes and tutoring, and enhanced safety measures implemented for strength and conditioning.
"Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our Maryland Athletics family has stayed committed to supporting one another," said Damon Evans, Director of Athletics. "Our program remains strong. And yet, the financial impact of the virus has cut us deeply. As we have seen many times before, when Terps come together, special things can happen, and so I am calling on Terrapins everywhere to rally together and support us with a gift to the More than the Score campaign as we face the most significant budget challenges in department history. Together, we will persevere."
While Maryland Athletics has yet to experience the full impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the department has already taken a number of steps to mitigate the risk to these revenue streams. Cost-cutting measures are in place, including a department-wide budget and hiring freeze as well as salary reductions for staff members at certain levels.
However, its mission of providing necessary resources for student-athletes has remained the same. Maryland Athletics is committed to minimizing the effect this financial crisis will have on its student-athletes. They continue to prioritize their health and safety, and pledge to provide them with opportunities for their future.
Individuals who give to the More than the Score Campaign during the campaign will receive limited edition t-shirt and double Terpoints (16 points per $100). Contributions to the campaign are above and beyond an individual's Terrapin Club membership and do not count towards annual membership levels.
In addition to the t-shirt and bonus Terpoint opportunity, Maryland Athletics will recognize its most generous donors who contribute $5,000 or more with a permanent display in XFINITY Center. Names will be displayed on a 'Scoreboard of Support' plaque on the concourse for years to come.
