Big 12 conference play is underway for No. 3 Oklahoma and Kansas State. And after one half, the favored Sooners lead 21-7. The two-score game is probably a little closer than experts expected, especially considering the Wildcats are down seven starters due to COVID-19 and contact tracing. The disparity is there on the stat sheet. Oklahoma is outgaining K-State 288-98.
Quarterback Spencer Rattler has thrown three touchdown passes, including two to freshman Marvin Mims and a third to Drake Stoops -- son of legendary Sooners coach Bob Stoops. Rattler's touchdown to Stoops was another reminder of the redshirt freshman's arm talent as he found his wideout on the run down the field. But Rattler also has two interceptions, which have kept K-State in the game. The first pick came off of a deflection, while the other was simply a bad throw. The interception led to a Wildcats touchdown pass from Skylar Thompson to Chabastin Taylor on a third-and-18. It's clear Oklahoma is the better team, but some mistakes have kept Kansas State from being completely overwhelmed.
