Well, the Cubs clinched a postseason spot before they got walked off in the 9th, so at least there’s that.
But the offense was once again almost entirely absent, save for one Anthony Rizzo swing. What, you expected MORE runs after the Cubs just GAVE you five last night? Come on, you greedy goose.
Jose Quintana got the first two innings, looking very Jose Quintana-like: the curveball was strong, the changeup was inconsistent, and the fastball got squared up when he got behind in the count. It was a fine two innings, but not anything that really got you think much about a postseason role one way or the other.
On the contrary, the four Adbert Alzolay innings that followed. Wow. He was showcasing a slurvy curveball with obscene lateral movement, and he was getting whiff after whiff after whiff. Yes, the Pirates are a terrible offensive club, but Alzolay looked very much like a guy you’d want in your postseason bullpen. He’s always had the stuff, but he’s never gotten a real look in a multi-inning relief role. I’m not saying you close the door on him as a possible starter next year, but man, if this is how he looks in relief right now, then USE him!
Unfortunately, new Cubs lefty Andrew Chafin couldn’t hold down the 9th, giving up a two-out walk-off homer to some goober to end it:

Not really a terrible pitch. Guy just got his hands in really well. Tip your cap.
