This battle was exactly what you'd predict it to be, until it wasn't. Neither the Minnesota Vikings nor the Green Bay Packers wanted to give an inch, but the latter was the beneficiary of multiple drives that put them in the red zone -- to no avail initially. That's when the former clamped down, at least for most of the first half, forcing Aaron Rodgers and his offense into two field goals on their first three red zone trips. After a matador defensive attempt on the Vikings' first drive of the game that allowed them to score a touchdown fairly easily, and quickly, the Green Bay defense is matching serve with their Minnesota counterparts -- including delivering the first safety of the 2020 NFL season early in the second quarter to steal momentum from an impressive Vikings goal-line stand only minutes prior.
It's was mostly a clash of defensive wills, forcing each offense into its own set of mistakes in what's already become a traditional back alley brawl between bitter NFC North rivals. But, of course, Rodgers found a way to make a clutch throw with less than a minute to play in the half, adding some insurance to the scoreboard with a touchdown pass. Cousins had a chance to make it close again ahead of halftime, but a bad throw to Adam Thielen resulted in an interception, pushing the momentum that much more in the favor of the Packers.
That's when Rodgers did another Rodgers thing, and one deep pass to Davante Adams blew open the game, landing both of his passing touchdowns in less than a football minute. And in the blink of an eye, the Vikings, who were able to tack on a field goal, are in big trouble down 22-10 at the half.
