No. 10 Notre Dame is a full-blown ACC member for the 2020 season. It can even play in the ACC Championship Game. The idea of the Fighting Irish winning the conference and then going back to being an independent makes me chuckle, and the path to those possible laughs begins in South Bend, Indiana, on Saturday against Duke. These two teams met last season in Durham, North Carolina, when the Irish got the best of the Blue Devils, winning 38-7. Of course, the last time Duke made the trip to South Bend was in 2016, it beat Notre Dame 38-35. What can we expect on Saturday?
Well, it's hard to know. But while Notre Dame has lost a lot of key production from its 2019 team, it does have Ian Book returning at quarterback. While it's always been nice to have experience at QB, it's not crazy to think it could be even more critical than ever before to start the 2020 season considering how little practice time teams had this offseason. Meanwhile, Duke has transfer QB Chase Brice ready to take over an offense that struggled last season. Odds are the Duke offense won't be firing on all cylinders yet, but we shouldn't overlook a Duke defense led by defensive lineman Chris Rumph.
