OOLTEWAH, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee started the day Tuesday with their eyes on the small gap between themselves and first place, but battled all day on a challenging Honors Course that showed its teeth and saw the Blue Raiders drop into a sixth place finish at the Scenic City Collegiate.

MT carded a team round of 30-over 318 in the final round to finish the 54-hole event at 48-over par (299-295-318=912), one stroke back of host Chattanooga.

"Obviously it was a brutal day out there for us today," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We just didn't have it on a really tough, unforgiving course."

Experienced senior Tanner Owens, back in the fold for his fifth collegiate season, led the way for MT on the week with an 8-over par (77-70-77=224) finish placing him in 12th in the field of 63 golfers.

Rookie Owen Stamper impressed in his collegiate debut, slotting in behind Owens with a Top 20 finish at 13-over par (72-76-81=229) made possible by a stellar debut round of even par 72 on Monday and a toal of 35 pars on the week that were the second most in the field.

"Tanner had a pretty good finish for us getting into the Top 15," McEntire added. "I thought Owen did a really nice job in his first tournament as well, collecting a Top 20 finish on a really great course," McEntire added.

Michael Barnard turned in a Top 25 performance in Chattanooga with a 54-hole scorecard of 15-over par (73-77-81=231) while Cooper Sears tied for 35th at 21-over par (82-72-83=237). His second round score of even par 72 matched Stamper for the second best round of the week for MT.

Lipscomb transfer Connor McKay finished his Blue Raider debut with a score he will be sure to want to improve upon, as the two-time Tennessee Match Play champion shot 25-over par (77-79-85=241) on the week.

Freshman Daniel Love used his best round of the week on Tuesday to finish within a stroke of McKay at 26-over par (80-83-79=242).

"That's just a very challenging place to play, especially in your first tournament of the year, but we're going to use it as a learning experience and do everything we can to improve before we get back out there next week."

Middle Tennessee is back in action in just one week's time, teeing off in UAB's Graeme McDowell Invitational at Greystone Golf and Country Club next Tuesday.
