In a chess match between two offensive wizards in Kyle Shanahan and Kliff Kingsbury, Shanahan has been the better of the two through one half of football between the San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals. Raheem Mostert's 76-yard touchdown catch is the difference in this one as the 49ers lead the Cardinals 13-10 at the half.
Give credit to Shanahan for exploiting a mismatch early in this one, lining Mostert up in the slot and pinning him 1-on-1 with first-round rookie Isaiah Simmons. Mostert blew by Simmons running a dig route and was off to the races as San Francisco took a 10-0 lead with 9:53 left in the first quarter. The Cardinals defense has held serve since, by a bend but don't break approach -- including a Devon Kennard stop on Mostert on 4th-and-goal to keep the score at 10-7 in the second quarter.
Kyler Murray has a touchdown pass in this one, as Kingsbury switched to the "Wishbone" formation from his typical four wide receiver personnel grouping and Murray found Chase Edmonds for a 10-yard score to cut the lead to 10-7. A Murray interception led to a Robbie Gould field goal to make it 13-7. Zane Gonzalez hit a career-long 56-yard field goal to close out the half.
