COLUMBUS, Ind. – On Thursday afternoon, members of the Columbus Parks and Recreation Board discussed the public information session that was held on Wednesday evening concerning the city’s golf course situation.
Julie Abedian was troubled about the timing of the decision to move forward with a particular option saying, “If we close a particular course, we can’t un-close it.” Josh Burnett related that he would like to see any decision postponed until after the historically most profitable golf period of any year, June through September.
Parks board president Mark Leavett said that the future of the sport of golf lies with the upcoming generation and that efforts to enlist them, such as kids-play-free programs, ought to be looked at. Leavett also noted that four years ago, the board proposed giving Greenbelt three years to break even, which has not happened.
