Bermuda Joins The List Of Countries Offering One Year Residencies - Forbes

The island of Bermuda had already been one of the countries opening to all international visitors as long as they tested negative for COVID-19 and followed certain guidelines during their visits. But given the hit to the country’s economy due to the decrease in tourism from the beginning of the year resulting from the coronavirus’s spread, the government decided that it had to do more. Starting August 1st, this British Overseas Territory is offering one year residencies for non-Bermudians to work, research or study on the island for a 12 month period. The portal to apply for a Residential Certificate is available on the government’s website; there is a one time fee of $263.

As anyone who has been to Bermuda knows, the country has a variety of diversions likely to pry those choosing to work from there away from their appointed rounds. There are nine top golf courses, more per square mile (there are only 21) than any other country in the world along with the famous crushed coral pink sand beaches. But as a site of corporate offices, especially in the insurance industry, it also has an efficient phone and internet infrastructure, far more than one would expect in tropical surroundings. The island, which managed the pandemic better than most countries, also has good medical facilities and given its short distance/under three hour flight from major cities of the U.S. East Coast, it’s easy to go back to the U.S. for visits if necessary.

Accommodation facilities are also in line with sophisticated tastes. Renters can take over the 25 acre woodland reserve Hawkins Island containing a four bedroom Main Villa and two bedroom Guard House, one of which features six bunks. A private chef can create all meals and during work breaks sailing, paddle boards, kayaks and snorkeling in clear turquoise waters are possible all around the island, as are hiking trails. A smaller island, the 3.2 acre Oswego Island, with a three bedroom house in typical ridged white roof Bermudian style and watersports including reef fishing is also available. And for those who want privacy linked to hotel services, the country’s newest hotel, The Loren at Pink Beach offers contemporary, elegant villas and the private, six bedroom Residence with 5.5 acres of land and its own beach adjacent to the main hotel.
