The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants will are renewing their rivalry on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium in the nightcap of Major League Baseball's Opening Day doubleheader. First pitch came shortly after 10 p.m. ET (here's how to watch). This will be the second meaningful MLB game since Game 7 of the 2019 World Series, which was played on Oct. 30, 2019, and the first involving divisional opponents. Opening Day was originally scheduled for March 26 of this year before the coronavirus pandemic shut down baseball.
The Dodgers had a surprise starter after ace Clayton Kershaw was scratched with back stiffness. Dustin May, a 22-year-old righty, will get the ball instead. Meanwhile, the Giants handed over the reins to Johnny Cueto. This game marks the first appearance for Mookie Betts in a Dodgers uniform, and it comes just a day after he agreed to a long-term extension with the club that will keep him in town for perhaps the rest of his career. This will also be the debut of Gabe Kapler as the Giants manager. He took over for Bruce Bochy during the winter.
