UC-VEG will hold its Lifestyle and Nutrition Course, via a virtual format starting soon.
Organizers say the 13-week evidence-based, disease prevention and reversal series will use lifestyle medicine to address the leading causes of death in the United States. New topics are covered each week including heart disease, diabetes, obesity and other chronic illnesses as well as how to view and manage stress, avoid toxins and chemicals, and incorporate more exercise into a daily routine. The virtual classes will include practical cooking demos, take home packets with information, and recipes.
Sponsors include Blue Zones Project Umpqua, Umpqua Health Alliance, CHI Mercy Medical Center, Aviva Health and others.
Juliete Palenshus is the Executive Director of UC Veg and is the Engagement Director for Blue Zones. She said that around 1,500 people have gone through the course in the past four years, with many seeing profound results. She said over 45 doctors and medical providers are referring people to the course as a preventative measure and a way to address the root causes of illnesses.
Classes run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday nights. Go to https://ucveg.org/about-uc-veg/volunteer-team/ for more information about the classes.
Palenshus talked about the course on the Morning Conversation Thursday on News Radio 1240 KQEN. That interview is a KQEN Podcast at www.541radio.com,
