Cardinals Gymnastics score big win over Tecumseh - WTVB News

COLDWATER, MI. - (WTVB) - The Coldwater Cardinal Gymnastics team dominated the Tecumseh Indians in their home gym on Wednesday night defeating the visitors by more than eight points 135.05 to 127.025.  It was the highest team score of the season for Coldwater, who is now 4-1 in league play.  

Leah Goodwin finished first in the vault with a score of 8.95 points. Abby Travelbee was third.

Coldwater went to the uneven bars where some history was in the making.  The Cardinals tallied their highest score of the season at 32.675 and it was the first time in Cardinal Gymnastics history three individual gymnasts successfully performed back to back giant circles on the unevens. Travelbee was claimed first place honors for her season best performance of 8.85 points. Layla Schoch was second while Randi Dudek finished in third.

The Cardinals posted 32.9 points on the balance beam. Layla Schoch turned in a personal best mark at 8.7 points for a first place finish. Goodwin was third.

The Cardinals sealed the victory on the floor exercise where the team posted their highest event total of the season at 35.275 points.  For the second time of the evening Coldwater swept the top four places. The team earned eight individual Regional scores along the way. Schoch carried her balance beam success over to the floor where she once again claimed the first place finish. It was a season high score for Schoch at 9.025 points. Also picking up a personal best for her performance was freshman Randi Dudek at 8.825 points for a second place finish. Abby Travelbee was next in line at 8.75 (3rd).

In the All-Around competition Coldwater claimed five of the top six places. Schoch had a banner evening that was topped off by a season best tally of 34.175 points and first place overall.  Travelbee earned second place honors for her total of 33.825 points. Goodwin finished the night in third place with 33.6 points. 

The Cardinal gymnasts are eagerly anticipating their big invitational on Saturday as they host their 10th Annual Stick It For a Cure competition for cancer awareness.  The team has been working hard towards collecting donations for the local ProMedical Cancer Center. Saturday’s competition will offer a wide variety of opportunities to give a donation.  There are over 130 baskets to bid on in the silent auction, the team is raffling off gift certificate to La Z Boy ($599 value), there will be sno cones and T-shirt sales on hand, and a Saran Ball game for the kiddos.  The public is invited to attend the event which kicks off at 9:30AM. The silent auction gets underway at 10AM and runs until 2PM
