END OF 1st: Chiefs 7, 49ers 3

The 49ers won the toss and elected to defer, and the San Francisco defense forced a quick Kansas City punt on the first drive of the game.

San Francisco’s first offensive series ended with a 38-yard field goal from Robbie Gould.

The Chiefs responded with a 15-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that lasted 7:26. Andy Reid elected to go for it on 4th-and-1 from the 5-yard line and converted, and a few plays later, Patrick Mahomes rushed into the endzone for a 1-yard score.

END of 2nd: Chiefs 10, 49ers 10

Early in the second, Kansas City’s Bashaud Breeland intercepted a pass from Jimmy Garoppolo after Garoppolo was pressured in the backfield.

Mahomes drove the Chiefs to the 49ers’ 13-yard line, but the Chiefs offense had to settle for a 31-yard field goal from Harrison Butker.

The 49ers got their rush game going on their next drive, and Kyle Juszczyk capped an 80-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown reception.

The 49ers appeared to have a great chance to kick a field goal just before halftime after Garoppolo hit George Kittle on a deep pass, but the play was wiped out after officials called offensive pass interference on Kittle.

END OF 3rd: 49ers 20, Chiefs 10

The 49ers received the opening kickoff in the second half, and while San Francisco was able to mount a 60-yard drive to just outside the red zone, the 49ers settled for a 42-yard field goal from Gould.

On the ensuing Chiefs drive, Mahomes was picked on a 3rd-and-12 play by Fred Warner.

Garoppolo hit Kendrick Bourne for a 26-yard pass to bring the 49ers into the red zone, and Raheem Mostert increased San Francisco’s lead with a 1-yard touchdown rush.

END OF 4th: Chiefs 31, 49ers 20

Needing to overcome a 10-point deficit in the final quarter, Mahomes threw an incredibly costly interception in the 49ers’ half of the field. His throw to Tyreek Hill was behind the receiver, and was deflected to Tarvarius Moore.

The Chiefs defense forced a crucial punt, and Mahomes drove Kansas City down the field with a 44-yard pass to Tyreek Hill. The Chiefs capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass play to Travis Kelce.

On the most important series of the season for the Chiefs defense, Kansas City forced a 3-and-out, and got the 49ers off the field in just 1:05, leaving Mahomes with 5:10 to try an lead a go-ahead drive.

In the biggest moment of his career, Mahomes delivered. Mahomes completed four consecutive passes to bring the Chiefs to the 49ers’ 10-yard line, and two plays later, Mahomes threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Damien Williams. Officials ruled the play a touchdown on the field, but reviewed the play to see if Williams stepped out of bounds. To the dismay of 49ers fans, the call stood.

The Chiefs defense then forced a turnover on downs to effectively seal the win, but Williams added another touchdown after he broke free for a 38-yard touchdown run.
