What a way to send fans off to the October international break: Liverpool and Manchester City put on a footballing spectacle in a 2-2 draw at Anfield Road that was arguably the fair result and one of the best games of the early season.
All four goals were scored in the second half and Manchester City needed to come from behind twice. Mohamed Salah assisted Liverpool's first goal and then scored on a world-class solo effort. Phil Foden, who was the best player for Manchester City, got his side's first goal and Kevin De Bruyne equalized with fewer than 10 minutes remaining.
"It was such a brilliant game," Foden said postgame. "On another day, we would've come away with the three points."
After a fiery start by Liverpool, Manchester City controlled the first half and created multiple opportunities down the left flank through Foden, but the visitors failed to pull ahead. Foden thought he had earned a penalty kick when he was tripped up by Liverpool right back James Milner, but the referee didn't oblige.
"I'm an honest guy. I don't like to go down," Foden continued in his postgame interview. "I'd like to see the ref reward a free kick or a penalty for that. Whatever it is, that's football and we dealt with it well."
Liverpool reset at halftime and came back out with a purpose behind an inspired Mo Salah, who singlehandedly tore Man City apart. His dribbling run and quick pass sprung Mane for his goal. Man City later equalized at 1-1 and then was hoping to see Liverpool go down a man after Milner committed a foul that could've easily resulted in a second yellow. But the referee spared the veteran.
Then Salah scored a sensational second goal for Liverpool, dancing past multiple defenders, but Man City was not to be denied and De Bruyne fired home from the top of the box. It looked like either team could've scored a winner and Liverpool had one final chance on a set piece. With the goal at his mercy, Fabinho was denied by a spectacular last-ditch sliding block by Rodri to preserve the result.
"That's why the Premier League is the best league in the world," Man City manager Pep Guardiola told NBC postgame. "What a game and what an atmosphere. Anfield is a specal place. We came back twice. We played incredible in the first half. Fifteen to 45 minutes was 'wow.' I don't think Anfield saw an opponent play with that type of personality. If you don't have courage to play in this environment, you don't have a chance. Unfortunately, we could not win, but we didn't lose. It's another step in this tough Premier League."
The teams head into the break inside the top three positions. Liverpool (4-0-3, 15 points) is in second place and Manchester City (4-1-2, 14 points) sits in third, both behind first-place Chelsea (16 points). Liverpool remains undefeated on the season, scoring two goals against a Manchester City side that had only conceded once in league play entering the match.

76th min.: What a goal by Mo Salah! He does it all by himself and dances through 3-4 Liverpool defenders and applies a world-class finish.
73rd min.: Pep Guardiola is irate! James Milner, who's sitting on a yellow, hacks down Bernardo Silva and it should be a second yellow. But the officials don't agree and Milner gets off scot free.
69th min.: Goal Manchester City! It's Foden who ties it! Gabriel Jesus converges from the right and feeds Foden, who blasts it low inside the far post. Great play by Gabriel Jesus and fantastic finish by Foden.
68th min.: SUB - Before he could get into any more card trouble, Diogo Jota is replaced by Roberto Firmino.
65th min.: SUB - Man City's Raheem Sterling comes on for Jack Grealish. Meanwhile, Liverpool's Diogo Jota was cautioned for clattering into Kevin De Bruyne.

59th min.: Goal Liverpool! Fantastic run by Salah down the right and he feeds Sadio Mane, who made the penetrating run and applied the finish past Ederson.
57th min.: Liverpool looking better to start the second half. Winning balls, free kicks and launching dangerous counters. The Reds got a wakeup call at halftime.
54th min.: Jota to Salah on the right and Joao Cancelo did well to stop him although the local fans wanted a penalty.
50th min.: Great save by Ederson! Diogo Jota with a spin move and a shot near the top of the box. Ederson was sure-handed.
48th min.: Ruben Dias defuses a dangerous chance by poking the ball away from compatriot Diogo Jota. Positive start from Liverpool.
46th min.: Second half is underway. No changes.
Halftime: Liverpool 0, Manchester City 0
Halftime: Strong start by Liverpool, but Man City slowly got a grip on the game and they dominated the last 25-30 minutes. Between Joao Cancelo's passing from his left back position and Phil Foden's constant runs in behind down the left, Man City has clearly identified Liverpool's area of weakness. But it's been unable to capitalize with wayward crosses and shots that are off target. Liverpool will have some adjustments to make and Jurgen Klopp sprinted into the locker at the halftime whistle.
44th min.: It's Ederson's turn to pick out Foden down the left flank, but again nothing comes of it.
41st min.: Pep Guardiola will not be able to avoid questions about the lack of a pure forward. Jack Grealish's runs in the box are not conducive to City's crosses. Man City continues to attack and the danger for Liverpool is increasing by the minute.
38th min.: Another ball into Foden down the left flank. No Milner to stop him. But his cross doesn't lead to a clear chance. Liverpool survives.
34th min.: Man City chance. De Bruyne with the diving header at the far post but he misses the target. Good chance for Man City.
32nd min.: Looks like a penalty for Man City. James Milner is late with his tackle on Phil Foden on the edge of the box. Nothing given by the referee. Foden has space on the left and he's causing Liverpool issues with his runs. It's no wonder Jack Grealish is playing central and Foden is wide.
26th min.: Ruben Dias slips while challenging Diogo Jota and he brings him down 40-45 yards from goal and picks up a yellow card. Nothing comes of the free kick.
24th min.: Joao Cancelo with a foray down the left and he feeds Kevin De Bruyne who shoots from a tough angle and the ball goes across the face of goal.
21st min.: What a play Bernardo Silva!! He twisted, spun and dribbled past 5-6 players before feeding Phil Foden, but Alisson comes off his line to stuff him. Foden couldn't chip him. Best chance of the game so far.
And that's why Bernardo was nicknamed "Bubblegum" as a kid #MCFC

18th min.: Alisson's goalkeeper distribution turns into a giveaway in his own half and Man City wins a corner. Nothing comes of it.
13th min.: It's been all Liverpool early. The rare advances by Man City have been misplayed. Phil Foden is playing wide left and Jack Grealish is highest player for Man City as the false nine.
7th min.: Beautiful passing buildup by Liverpool leads to a corner. Van Dijk nearly connects on the corner kick. Strong start by Liverpool and the crowd is into it.
5th min.: Man City are giving the ball up early. Joao Cancelo gave it away deep and Mo Salah almost took advantage. It turned into a cross which didn't result in any danger for Man City.
1st min.: We're off and Liverpool immediately on the front foot.
11:30 a.m.: The tribute to former Liverpool star Roger Hunt:
11:29 a.m.: You'll Never Walk Alone ... to get the juices flowing:
11:28 a.m.: Teams are out of the tunnel.
The Premier League anthem is atrocious. Just in case you'd all forgotten.

11:10 a.m.: Listen to Pep speak before the match:
11:09 a.m.: All eyes will be on James Milner, who replaces Trent Alexander-Arnold, and his battle against Man City's Jack Grealish.
Never any doubt that James Milner would be tasked with trying to fill Trent AA's boots against his former club this afternoon. What a signing he's been since he walked away from City six years ago. #LFC https://t.co/rr5NU8vZQ4
