MORGANTOWN — Levi Teets’ 4-yard touchdown run with 2:59 remaining in regulation lifted Class A, No. 10 ranked Trinity to a 21-14 win over Tygarts Valley on Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bulldogs (3-5) lit the scoreboard first in the contest when Luke Bright threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Gibson on the first play of the second quarter. The score was set up after Gibson snared his ninth interception of the season for Tygarts Valley’s defense.
The Warriors (6-1) tied the contest at 7-7 on their second play from scrimmage on the ensuing drive when Jaylon Hill connected with Carmelo Kniska for an 84-yard touchdown with 10:33 left in the opening half.
Just before the half, Trinity was able to take a 14-7 lead into intermission when Teets capped off a 9-play, 92-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run at the 3:37 mark of the second quarter.
Neither team could find the end zone in the third stanza and Tygarts Valley knotted things up at 14 at the 7:20 mark of the fourth quarter when Nate Hulver scored on a 6-yard touchdown run.
A short kick and a good return on the ensuing kickoff set the hosts up at the Bulldogs’ 37-yard line. Eight plays later Teets scampered into the end zone for the game-winning score.
Hill completed 13-of-19 passes for 205 yards to lead the Warriors’ offensive attack. Kniska was his top target with seven catches for 172 yards. Teets finished with 52 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Hulver led Tygarts Valley with 121 rushing yards on 22 attempts. Bright completed a perfect 8-of-8 passes for 104 yards. Gibson collected four receptions for 104 yards.
The Bulldogs will return home to face rival Pocahontas County next Friday.
