Thursday afternoon at Minute Maid Park, the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox kick off the League Division Series round of the 2021 postseason. The AL West champion Astros will host the AL Central champion White Sox in Game 1 of the ALDS. Here's how you can watch the series opener.
The pitching matchup features two Lances: Lynn (11-6, 2.69 ERA) gets the ball against McCullers Jr. (13-5, 3.16 ERA), and both have a ton of postseason experience. This will be Lynn's eighth career postseason start and 27th career postseason appearance. McCullers will make his eighth career postseason start as well. It will be his 15th career postseason appearance overall.
Houston led baseball in runs per game during the regular season and the White Sox weren't too far behind. The bullpens will of course be a significant factor. The ChiSox have a deep relief crew and two All-Star closers (Craig Kimbrel and Liam Hendriks). The 'Stros can match up with Chicago's righty heavy lineup with righty relievers who really spin the ball (most notably Ryan Pressly).
The Astros won the season series 5-2 against the White Sox and outscored them 35-23 in the process. That includes sweeping four games at Minute Maid Park in June.
