WEST MICHIGAN — Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, or NFTE, is offering a free two-week online course for anyone thinking about taking their career in a new direction.
Under normal circumstances, NFTE works with school districts around the world to educate youth in the fundamentals of entrepreneurship education, explained President and CEO of NFTE, Dr. JD LaRock.
“Any idea can be developed and we feel everybody has the capacity to become an entrepreneur,” said Dr. LaRock. “The process of figuring out how to become an entrepreneur really starts with identifying a business idea that resonates with you and then it proceeds on to researching that idea and developing it.”
Dr. LaRock says NFTE has changed the course a bit and boiled it down for people out of work or simply looking to pivot due to the pandemic.
“Maybe there’s a business idea they’ve always had in the back of their mind that they’d like to bring out to the world, this is meant to help them,” Dr. LaRock said.
The course features videos, interactive assessments and offers some exercises about creating a business, all completely free in a self-paced online course.
Dr. LaRock adds this course can help everyday workers become better workers regardless of whether they have plans to start their own business.
“Often times the entrepreneurial mindset is needed in order to become a successful employee within a company, even if you’re not an entrepreneur in and of yourself. I’m talking about things like communication, critical thinking, problem solving, the ability to assess and manage risk,” Dr. LaRock added.
