Grand Forks News Forward: SCORE meeting focuses on economy, cost of the coronavirus response - Grand Forks Herald

Herald reporter Adam Kurtz will attend the SCORE meeting about an economic downturn in Grand Forks on Wednesday. He'll talk to attendees about troubles, if any, that they're facing.

Reporter Joe Bowen will look into the costs being incurred by the state of North Dakota in relation to the response to the coronavirus. There's been zero confirmed cases of COVID-19 so far in North Dakota. Tuesday, the North Dakota Emergency Commission voted to accept up to $6 million in federal funds to contain and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

President Donald Trump signed legislation last week appropriating $8.3 billion for COVID-19 preparedness, prevention and treatment efforts. Of the total, $950 million will go to state and local public health efforts, and half of that amount must be allocated within 30 days.

The North Dakota Department of Health requested increased spending authority to accept up to $6 million in federal funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which will help cover salaries and wages of those devoting time to the emergency, as well as to medical supplies and equipment to test samples submitted to the state lab.
