St. Louis BattleHawks at Dallas Renegades score, highlights

(All times Eastern.)

Final: BattleHawks 15, Renegades 9

7:51 p.m.: INTERCEPTION, RENEGADES. The Renegades got the ball with 40 seconds left down by six, falling on their own muffed punt, but then throw a game-ending interception. The upset is complete.

7:44 p.m.: Two-minute warning. St. Louis is still in possession.

7:36 p.m.: Dallas goes three-and-out and punts with four minutes remaining.

7:32 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, BATTLEHAWKS. A third-and-9 sack stops the BattleHawks' drive in its tracks. St. Louis hits a 48-yard field goal, though, to extend its lead. 15-9, BattleHawks.

7:29 p.m.: St. Louis gets possession back and is right away moving the ball on the ground. The team is averaging 5.5 yards per carry in this contest.

7:16 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, BATTLEHAWKS. Ta'amu throws a strike to the back of the end zone on third-and-goal. The St. Louis one-point conversion attempt is no good. 12-9, BattleHawks.

Third quarter: Renegades 9, BattleHawks 6

7 p.m.: Oops! A perfect punt is negated by this gaffe.

6:57 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, RENEGADES. Another drive stalls, but Dallas is nonetheless able to take the lead. 9-6, Renegades.

6:56 p.m.: On third-and-goal, Nelson tries to scramble but is popped behind the line of scrimmage.

6:50 p.m.: Dunbar breaks a big 20-yard run into St. Louis territory.

6:38 p.m.: The second half is underway.

Halftime: BattleHawks 6, Renegades 6

6:24 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, RENEGADES. Dallas settles for a field goal after a penalty brought back what would have been a first down inside the 10. 6-6.

6:20 p.m.: Cameron Artis-Payne has a huge run wiped away by a holding call.

6:15 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, BATTLEHAWKS. The underdogs are ahead. Keith Ford takes a pitch 16 yards for a score. A conversion attempt from the 5-yard line is no good. 6-3, BattleHawks.

6:06 p.m.: Two-minute warning.

6:03 p.m.: This has been a real defensive battle. Neither team has eclipsed 150 offensive yards.

6 p.m.: TURNOVER ON DOWNS, RENEGADES. After getting the ball back via punt, Dallas runs into a wall on fourth-and-short in BattleHawks territory, giving the ball back to St. Louis with about six minutes left in the first half.

5:45 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, RENEGADES. Dallas is on the board with a 32-yard kick. 3-0, Renegades.

5:40 p.m.: Nelson drills a pass to Freddie Martino just beyond the grasp of a diving defender, and the Renegades move into field goal range.

First quarter: BattleHawks 0, Renegades 0

5:32 p.m.: FUMBLE, BATTLEHAWKS. St. Louis coughs up the ball and Dallas recovers. A big takeaway for the Renegades at the end of the first quarter.

5:29 p.m.: Ta'amu showing off his wheels by scrambling for the long first down. The BattleHawks are out past the 50-yard line now.

5:27 p.m.: BattleHawks' drive is extended after a defensive holding call on Dallas. St. Louis is driving at its 16-yard line.

5:22 p.m.: Dallas facing fourth-and-less-than-a-yard but the Renegades aren't risking it at their 39. Punt upcoming.

5:21 p.m.: Renegades back at it after the teams trade punts. Dallas will take over at its 29.

5:16 p.m.: BattleHawks getting a couple big plays to get out from the shadow of their own end zone. They're driving past their 40-yard line now.

5:12 p.m.: Not a bad first drive by Dallas, but the BattleHawks hold tough and force a punt at their 36 on fourth-and-18. The Renegades kick a 33-yard punt, however, giving St. Louis a long field ahead of them.

5:10 p.m.: Just a few plays in and you can already see this Renegades offense will feature lots of Air Raid philosophies. Nelson is letting it fly out there.

5:08 p.m.: Nelson completes his first pass for a 22-yard gain out to Flynn Nagel. Not a bad start.

5:06 p.m.: Welcome back to coaching, Bob Stoops. Renegade will take over at their 25-yard line.

Tampa Bay Vipers at New York Guardians score, highlights

(All times Eastern)

Final: Guardians 23, Vipers 3

Recap: The Guardians put together an excellent defensive performance en route to the 23-3 win on Sunday, allowing just three points — and forcing three turnovers — on Vipers red zone trips. In all, Tampa netted 394 yards of offense, but scored zero touchdowns and turned the ball over five times (including two turnovers on downs). Murray struggled mightily for the Vipers, going 16 of 34 for 231 yards and two interceptions (including one in the end zone). His backup, Flowers, didn't fare much better: He completed 1 of 2 passes for 37 yards, adding 34 rushing yards on five carries. Their Guardians counterpart, McGloin, completed 15 of 29 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown. He also added a rushing touchdown to account for both of the Guardians' offensive touchdowns. The third touchdown, appropriately, was a fumble return for a touchdown by Summers.

4:51 p.m.: TURNOVER ON DOWNS, VIPERS. Absolutely abysmal red-zone offense by Tampa results in another turnover inside the 20. Flowers rolls out but throws the ball in the dirt as he's tackled. The kicker? Tampa scored a touchdown off a Flowers keeper that was negated due to a false start penalty.

4:44 p.m.: Flowers throws a beauty of a ball to Williams for a 37-yard gain to the 2-yard line. Now, can they finally punch it in?

4:38 p.m.: Vipers force a three-and-out and get it back at their 43 with 3:43 left in the game.

4:32 p.m.: TURNOVER ON DOWNS, VIPERS. Murray tries to hit Horn at the goal line, but he can't haul it in. Guardians will take over at that should do it.

4:31 p.m.: Murray comes in on third down and is immediately sacked. That's his third sack of the day.

4:29 p.m.: Flowers takes the next two plays and gets the Vipers first-and-goal from the 8-yard line. Need a touchdown — not a field goal _ here.

4:28 p.m.: Wow, Murray keeps his team's hopes alive with a lucky catch by Daniel Williams. Murray threw it too far inside on the comeback route, and the defender undercut it too far. But it gives Tampa a new set of downs at the New York 21-yard line.

4:26 p.m.: Tampa faces fourth-and-4 on its ensuing drive, but this is four-down territory from here on out.

4:21 p.m.: Fascinating stuff watching the replay booth review the play in real time on the telecast. Both the fumble and spot stand as called on the field. The Vipers keep the Guardians out of the end zone on the ensuing 1-point conversion, but it's 23-3 New York with 11:54 remaining.

4:18 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, GUARDIANS. That should do it. Truesdell takes the slant, advances it a few yards and fumbles the ball. It's recovered by Jamar Summers, who returns it 20 yards for the touchdown. It's under review, both the fumble and the spot Summers was brought down.

4:14 p.m.: Woof. McGloin had Horn wide open on the square-out route, but threw it behind him and forced him to contort his body. Horn completely missed it.

4:11 p.m.: McGloin hits Victor out of the background; he makes a man miss and takes it 15 yards to the Vipers 48-yard line. Not devastating, but not ideal for Tampa.

Third quarter: Guardians 17, Vipers 3

4:08 p.m.: Guardians facing third-and-6 at their 37 the start of the fourth quarter. A big-time play coming up if Tampa wants to stay in this.

4:01 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, VIPERS. The Guardians hang tough, getting a tackle for loss and forcing two incompletions. Tampa Bay elects for the easy field goal to make it 17-3.

3:58 p.m.: And the Vipers have driven to the Guardians 4-yard line with Flowers injecting some life into this offense. Worth remembering, however, that they threw an interception from the 6 on the first drive of the game.

3:55 p.m.: Flowers back in at quarterback for the Vipers. He shows off his wheels on a 6-yard gain off the zone read. Then Murray comes back in. So it looks as if Tampa is willing to mix it up with these two.

3:49 p.m.: Vipers do a good job forcing a punt on the Guardians' ensuing drive. They'll take over at their 18.

3:36 p.m.: Murray comes in on third-and-long and is immediately strip-sacked. Vipers recover but half to punt now. Guardians will take over at their 24-yard line.

3:45 p.m.: Seems like the Vipers have seen enough from Murray today. Backup Quinton Flowers (from South Florida) is in at quarterback. A notable dual-threat quarterback.

3:42 p.m.: Something to remember as the Vipers take over at their 31 to start the half:

Halftime: Guardians 17, Vipers 0

3:30 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, GUARDIANS. Wow, tough sequence for Tampa there. McGloin hits Pearson wide-open down the sideline, allowing Matthew McCrane to hit a 49-yard field goal as the half expires to make it 17-0 Guardians.

3:27 p.m.: INTERCEPTION, VIPERS. Welp, that didn't matter. Murray threw his second interception of the day to Bryce Jones. Tough debut for Murray here today.

3:25 p.m.: Uh-oh. Soroh is called for unnecessary roughness on a first-down converting catch by Horn, but replay shows a pretty clean hit. That's a big penalty with the Vipers now in field goal range.

3:24 p.m.: Ryan Mueller and Cavon Walker combine for the sack on Murray two plays later — at least, they would have if the defense hadn't had 12 players on the field. Vipers have it third-and-5 at their 47.

3:20 p.m.: Nick Truesdell gets the Vipers out to the 42-yard line with a nice catch. He bobbles it with one hand and brings it in with the big hit incoming.

3:17 p.m.: Guardians get a nice drive going but stall at the Vipers' 45-yard line with 1:44 left in the half. Tampa has one last chance at getting a scoring drive going before halftime.

3:10 p.m.: Aaaaand we have our first ejection in XFL history. Ricky Walker threw a punch and is ejected with 2:25 remaining in the first half.

3:04 p.m.: Vipers and Guardians trade punts, the latter of which will take over at their 15 with 4:37 remaining in the second quarter.

2:52 p.m.: MISSED FIELD GOAL, VIPERS. Tampa squanders its second scoring opportunity, missing a 50-yard field goal attempt just left from Andrew Franks. The score remains the same.

2:50 p.m.: Murray finally gets something going on offense, hitting Jalen Tolliver for a 44-yard gain all the way to New York's 31-yard line. Lots of action early in the second quarter.

2:46 p.m.: And one play later, McGloin hits a wide-open Colby Pearson in the end zone. Cook scores another extra point on the 2-yard gainer. It's now 14-0 Guardians with 13:29 in the second quarter.

2:45 p.m.: Some beautiful footwork and pocket presence by McGloin on that play, who hits Mecale McKay 45 yards down the sideline for a big first down. McGloin's 5 of 10 for 84 yards so far. Guardians have it first-and-10 at the 12-yard line.

2:42 p.m.: Guardians to take over at their own 45-yard line after the punt.

First quarter: Guardians 7, Vipers 0

2:38 p.m.: Vipers on to punt after the initial 14-yard run by Smith. That will be the first play of the second quarter.

2:35 p.m.: Smith rushes for 14 yards on the first play of the drive out to the Vipers 30-yard line.

2:33 p.m.: Three plays later, the Guardians punt.

2:30 p.m.: Darius Victor with a nice 22-yard gain off left tackle to get the Guardians a first down at the 42-yard line.

2:28 p.m.: INTERCEPTION, VIPERS. And one play later, Murray throws a duck into the end zone. It's batted down by D'Juan Hines and intercepted by Andrew Soroh. Guardians will take over at their 20.

2:27 p.m.: Murray fits the ball into a tight, tight window on third-and-12 to Reece Horn down to the 6-yard line.

2:21 p.m.: Vipers running back De'Veon Smith gets a nice 14-yard carry, but fumbles. Thankfully for him his teammate recovers it, netting Tampa Bay 10 yards and a first down.

2:19 p.m.: Now it's the former Bulldogs star's turn. Murray will lead the Vipers from their own 37 with 9:45 in the first quarter.

2:14 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, GUARDIANS. And there you have the first touchdown in New York Guardians history: a 1-yard quarterback sneak by McGloin. Running back Tim Cook III takes the pitch right for a 2-yard 1-point conversion to make it 7-0 Guardians.

2:12 p.m.: McGloin with another beautiful throw on second down. He hits Joe Horn Jr. — son of Saints receiver Joe Horn — to get down to the 6-yard line.

2:10 p.m.: New York goes for it on fourth-and-4 on the opening drive of the game, and McGloin hits Jake Powell for the conversion. Guardians driving at the Vipers' 27-yard line now.

2:08 p.m.: Guardians get the ball first after the kickoff is returned to near midfield.

2:06 p.m.: Something to remember with the new XFL: Betting is made fan-friendly. Vipers are 3.5-point-favorites over the Guardians, and the over/under is 52.5 points.

1:50 p.m.: It's about that time. ...
