Tony-winning Broadway musical “Rent” is only playing five shows in Denver as part of its 20th anniversary tour, but fans have a chance to score $20 tickets for seats in the first few orchestra rows.
The Denver Center for the Performing Arts, which is hosting the production at the Buell Theatre Feb. 28-March 1, is holding a lottery for $20 passes that includes in-person entry at the Buell’s box office.
Here’s how it works, according to the DCPA:
- Two hours before each show, fans who show up at the Buell can enter their names to be placed in a lottery drum (classic, eh?).
- Thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for the chance to buy up to two tickets at $20 each — cash only!
- Reminder: The lottery offer is only good in-person at the Buell Theatre’s box office, located in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, 1350 Curtis St. in downtown Denver.
- Lottery hopefuls must possess a valid photo ID when submitting their entry form and, if chosen, when buying tickets.
- Only one entry is allowed per person, and tickets are subject to availability.
The lottery continues a tradition that began “in 1996 in New York when the show moved to Broadway after a sold-out run in a small downtown theatre,” DCPA officials said in a press statement. “The producers of the show are committed to continuing the tradition of offering these orchestra seats in each city the show will play.”
If that sounds familiar, it’s because the Broadway smash “Hamilton,” which returns to Denver Aug. 12-Oct. 4, is also using a lottery system to offer $10 tickets to each performance (as it did during its previous Denver run). Call 303-893-4100 or visit denvercenter.org for more details on both shows.
