Rams-Cardinals final score: LA falls to 3-1 after an ugly loss - Turf Show Times

The Los Angeles Rams could not overcome their turnovers and lost to the undefeated Arizona Cardinals 37-20. With the win the Cardinals are the only undefeated team left in the NFC. Here’s how it happened.

First Quarter

LA got the ball to start off the game after the Cardinals won the opening toss. Though Matthew Stafford was able to move the ball down the field fairly easy, Cooper Kupp uncharacteristically dropped a would be first down reception at the 23 yard line. The Rams settled for a Matt Gay field goal and put the first points of the game on the board.

Arizona would not have the ball long, however, as Leonard Floyd was able to get Murray down on a third and five for a huge loss. Stafford’s second drive ended even faster than Murray’s first after a deep ball to DeSean Jackson landed in safety Byron Murphy’s arms.

Murray capitalized on the Rams turnover and found wide receiver AJ Green deep down the right side of the field for 41 yards and a touchdown.

After his interception Stafford came back his next drive and took the lead on a touchdown to Van Jefferson. Head coach Sean McVay called six runs in the series to just three passes. Both Darrell Henderson and Sony Michel were able to exploit wide open holes and gash the Cardinals for big plays on the ground.

Score: Cardinals 7, Rams 10

Second Quarter

The Cardinals got the ball back after the LA score and led a methodical 11-play drive that ended in a Maxx Williams touchdown.

They would ball right back after a Michel fumble that set the visiting team at the 25 yard line. After Murray scrambled on 3rd and 18 to find the first down, James Connor found the endzone for Arizona’s third touchdown of the game.

The LA offense could not get much going in the first half. They stalled once again with 7:34 left on the clock and ended up punting back to the Cardinals. The Rams finally made their own stand against Murray’s offense and were able to force a three and out. Stafford led his team all the way to the Arizona four yard line but could not punch the ball in, leading to Gay’s second field goal of the day.

Before time expired to mark the end of the half the Cardinals successfully kicked a field goal to put the Rams two scores behind.

Score: Cardinals 24, Rams 13

Third Quarter

After choosing to kick the ball off to start the game Arizona received the kickoff in the second half. Though the Cardinals continued to move the ball well against Los Angeles, they had to settle for three, putting them up by two touchdowns.

Following a Rams missed field goal Murray did not let off of the throttle and continued to dissect LA’s defense with both his arm and his legs. He found Williams for a 25 yard gain on a tight end screen that put the Cardinals in the red zone. James Conner finished it off with a hard run down the throats of LA’s offensive line for his second score of the day.

Score: Cardinals 34, Rams 13

Fourth Quarter

Stafford attempted to put the game on his shoulders after four rush attempts by the quarterback. It had appeared that Stafford was able to punch the ball in on a seven yard scamper, but McVay chose not to risk a timeout and save the challenge. With two attempts to go in for the score, a QB sneak went no where and Tyler Higbee dropped a difficult pass from Stafford to turn the ball over on downs at the one yard line.

On 3rd and 7 on their own three LA was in a good position to force a difficult punt, but running back Chase Edmonds found daylight up the middle of the field for a gain of 54.

The Rams defense did end up stopping Arizona on the drive, but not before Murray put his team on the four yard line. Cardinals kicker Matt Prater finished the drive with his third field goal of the day.

Though the game was over at this point, Los Angeles came away with a touchdown with 1:14 left in the game. Stafford found Robert Woods for a 14 yard strike and score. Murray was able to take a knee end the game.

After an ugly loss to a divisional rival the Rams move to 3-1 on the season and will need to improve quickly for a Thursday night game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Final: Cardinals 37, Rams 20
