No. 4 Penn State leads No. 3 Iowa by a touchdown entering the fourth quarter, but if it's going to hold onto its 20-13 lead and pull off a road upset, it will have to do so without starting quarterback Sean Clifford, who was hurt late in the first half and went to the locker room during the second quarter. The next time anybody saw Clifford, he was in street clothes on the Penn State sideline to open the second half.
Ta'Quan Roberson has stepped in to fill Clifford's shoes, and he's been as hit-or-miss as you'd expect from a young, inexperienced QB in a tough road environment. While Roberson led the Nittany Lions on a field goal drive, he's only completed 3 of 8 passes for 22 yards with an interception through the third quarter.
The good news for Penn State is that Iowa's offense hasn't been able to do much to take advantage. The Hawkeyes have only 211 total yards through the first three quarters as QB Spencer Petras has been held to 107 yards passing. Tyler Goodson has rushed for only 66 yards, but nearly half of them came on Iowa's last possession of the third quarter. The Hawkeyes are likely to lean on him in the fourth quarter while trying to tie this game.
