Brewers wallop Tigers in 19-0 rout: Game recap, box score - MLive.com

DETROIT -- Yikes. The best that can be said about this one is that it only counts as one loss.

The Milwaukee Brewers shredded Detroit Tigers' pitching in a 19-0 blowout Wednesday afternoon at Comerica Park.

The Tigers managed only two hits -- both by Willi Castro -- and fell out of the game early after starter Matthew Boyd gave up seven runs in three innings. John Schreiber, Rony Garcia and Kyle Funkhouser all struggled in relief.

Outfielder Travis Demeritte pitched the ninth, allowing four more runs, including two home runs.

The Tigers (19-22) entered the game just one game out of the final American League wild card spot.

They hit the road for a doubleheader at St. Louis against the Cardinals on Thursday.

Bottom 9th: Josh Lindblom retires the Tigers in order and this one is finally in the books. Final: Brewers 19, Tigers 0.

Top 9th: Outfielder Travis Demeritte entered in the ninth inning in an effort to save the Tigers' bullpen. He looked competent, firing accurate pitches of about 80-83 mph, but he may have been a little too accurate. The Brewers homered twice and scored four runs. Brewers 19, Tigers 0.

Bottom 8th: Corbin Burnes finally gave way after seven brilliant innings, but the Tigers had little more success against reliever Eric Yardley. Willi Castro reached on a lead-off single; he has both Tigers' hits today. Brewers 15, Tigers 0.

Top 8th: Tigers reliever Joe Jimenez hit lead-off man Tyrone Taylor but retired the next three batters in a mercifully uneventful inning. Brewers 15, Tigers 0.

Bottom 7th: The Tigers' go 1-2-3 again (sound familiar?) as Corbin Burnes continues to cruise. Brewers 15, Tigers 0.

Top 7th: Kyle Funkhouser walked two and gave up a couple of single and a two-run homer to Ryan Braun in another rough inning for Tigers' pitchers. Brewers 15, Tigers 0.

Bottom 6th: Another 1-2-3 inning for Corbin Burnes, who has been flawless save for that Willi Castro triple. Pinch-hitter Derek Hill lined out to left field, coming close to his first Major League hit. Brewers 12, Tigers 0.

Top 6th: The Brewers picked up five more runs in this increasingly miserable game for the Tigers. The big hit came on Luis Urias' bases-clearing, three-run double. Rony Garcia entered in relief and took the brunt of the damage. Brewers 12, Tigers 0.

Bottom 5th: The Tigers got their first base runner against Corbin Burnes when Willi Castro tripled off the wall in right-center. But Jorge Bonifacio and Daz Cameron struck out to end the inning. Brewers 7, Tigers 0.

Top 5th: John Schreiber pitched the Tigers' first 1-2-3 inning of the day, striking out Jacob Nottingham to end the frame. Brewers 7, Tigers 0.

Bottom 4th: Corbin Burnes is now perfect through four. He retired the Tigers in order again in the fourth, getting Victor Reyes looking. Brewers 7, Tigers 0.

Top 4th: Matthew Boyd got knocked out before retiring a batter in the fourth, surrendering a two-run home run to Jacob Nottingham and then walking Avisail Garcia (who later scored after reliever John Schreiber entered). Boyd had a bumpy start to the season, but this was likely his worst start of the season. Brewers 7, Tigers 0.

Bottom 3rd: It’s been nine up, nine down for Corbin Burnes in the first three innings. He has five strikeouts. Brewers 4, Tigers 0.

Top 3rd: The Brewers tacked on another run with Jedd Gyorko’s lead-off homer. Ryan Braun singled but was erased by a double play and Matthew Boyd suffered no further damage. Brewers 4, Tigers 0.

Bottom 2nd: Corbin Burnes retired the Tigers in order again, picking up two more strikeouts by fanning Willi Castro and Jorge Bonifacio. Brewers 3, Tigers 0.

Top 2nd: Matthew Boyd gave up three runs in the second and it could have been worse were it not for a couple of nice defensive plays. Boyd allowed four doubles and a walk, but was bailed out when catcher Grayson Greiner nabbed Luis Urias trying to steal third (see below) and third baseman Isaac Paredes made a diving stab of a Keston Hiura grounder. Boyd has already walked three through two innings and is not looking sharp. Brewers 3, Tigers 0.

Bottom 1st: Corbin Burnes struck out Victor Reyes and then Jonathan Schoop (after a nine-pitch battle) before Miguel Cabrera flied out to end the inning. Tigers 0, Brewers 0.

Top 1st: Tigers starter Matthew Boyd walked two (bad) and struck out two (good) in a scoreless first inning. Brewers 0, Tigers 0.
