Travel quarantines announced - Royal Gazette

Travellers arriving from the UK this evening and on all flights tomorrow must complete a questionnaire setting out their travel history for the last 14 days.

The questions will also apply to passengers arriving this evening from New York and Miami.

Arriving passengers are also “strongly urged” to self-quarantine for the next 14 days, according to an announcement from the Bermuda Government this afternoon, which said information on what to do during the period of self-quarantine would be provided.

The moves are aimed at preventing the spread of the global coronavirus pandemic into Bermuda.

Residents were also strongly advised to cancel all non-essential travel, in light of the “rapidly changing global situation” and steps taken by most countries to protect their borders.

Starting Tuesday, all arriving travellers will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days, and will be required to stay at home.

The restrictions are expected to remain through the end of this month.

Persons on quarantine will be contacted by health personnel, who will be the first point of contact in the event the person develops fever, cough or difficulty breathing.

Employers with quarantined staff were asked to “exercise sensitivity”, and not to require or knowingly allow workers to come to work if they have been required to self-quarantine.

A worker in self-quarantine and who does not feel sick should be allowed to work from home, where possible.

Agreed options such as paid sick leave should be considered.

The requirement to self-quarantine will apply also to visitors to the island — but they will be able leave Bermuda whenever this wish, if they have no symptoms.
