Pontiac’s 20th anniversary remembrance event for 9/11 will coincide with the official opening of a new city disc golf course.
Festivities will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hawthorne Park, 1400 Telegraph Road. Attendees will be provided with discs and markers and can play with or against one another.
“Hawthorne Park has a rich history with the city of Pontiac and was once situated adjacent to the Hawthorne School,” said Jake Steinbrecher, club director of ‘The Thorne’ Driftwood Creek Disc Golf course. “The park property has been overgrown and unchanged for some time and with the introduction of our minimally invasive disc golf course, the wildlife and rich oak and maple forest can thrive and be viewed while participating in the sport.”
The course is still being cleaned up, Steinbrecher added, as post-installation work includes refining the course for better accessibility.
Those attending are suggested to bring bug spray, long pants, socks, and boots or sneakers to walk through the woods.
