Hurricane Sam weakens a bit; Track staying east of Bermuda - WITN

Hurricane Sam: Hurricane Sam reached major hurricane strength Sunday and, with plenty of warm water ahead of it, it will maintain major hurricane status. Sam is currently a category 4 hurricane with 130 mph winds. The center of Sam is moving northwesterly at 8 mph, which should keep the hurricane just northeast of the Leeward Islands by the middle of next week. From there, a slight turn to the north will put Bermuda near the path of Sam late in the week.

While the current track and model data keep Sam well off the U.S. coastline, we’ll still be keeping a close eye on the storm for any potential track shifts over the coming days.

Sam is expected to stay well offshore of the U.S. coast.
