One of the most mysterious teams entering the 2021 season will start providing us with answers Saturday night when No. 16 LSU begins its season at UCLA inside the Rose Bowl. The Bruins enjoyed a successful dress rehearsal by trouncing Hawaii 44-10 in Week 0 but will face a far stiffer test against a Tigers team that has one of the five most talented rosters in college football.
LSU is breaking in two new coordinators for a third consecutive season as they turn to Jake Peetz on offensive in an effort to replicate the 2019 team's success under Joe Brady. Longtime college and NFL assistant Daronte Jones replaces Bo Pelini as LSU's defensive boss after an abysmal 2020 season for the Tigers, who dropped to 5-5 after their 15-0 national title run in 2020. UCLA, meanwhile, is seeking a breakthrough under fourth-year coach Chip Kelly, who has a veteran team that looks capable of reaching a bowl game for the first time in his tenure.
