No. 15 Pittsburgh and No. 21 Wake Forest have delivered on the promise of a high-flying ACC Championship Game, combining for 377 yards and 35 points in the first 15 minutes of action. At the end of the first quarter it's Wake Forest holding a 21-14 lead, but the indication is clear that there are many more touchdowns to come for both teams in Charlotte, N.C..
Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett got things started with a 58-yard touchdown run that added to the Heisman Trophy highlight reel, as he froze a Wake Forest defender with a fake slide midway through the run before regaining his speed and breaking away for the touchdown. Pickett has 128 yards passing and two total touchdowns. Among those was a touchdown pass that broke Dan Marino's school record for career passing touchdowns and brought Pickett to a tie with Deshaun Watson for the ACC single-season record with 41.
Sam Hartman may have finished as the All-ACC second team pick behind Pickett, but he's matched the Pitt quarterback blow-for-blow in this opening quarter with 118 yards passing and two touchdown passes to go with another score on the ground. The Demon Deacons offense has run 31 plays and has 17 first downs, using their up-tempo offense to march right down the field with answers to every explosive Pitt play.
