No. 4 Cincinnati and No. 21 Houston have already created a rollercoaster ride of an AAC Championship Game through 15 minutes. While the Bearcats hold a 14-10 lead, this game is shaping up to be a shootout that should be a thrill until the final whistle.
Houston took the first possession right down the field with several explosive plays but settled for a field goal. Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder then put his team ahead with ruthless efficiency, going 4 of 4 on his first possession for 76 yards and a touchdown. Houston responded with a touchdown drive of its own, which was one-upped by a 79-yard TD run from Cincy running back Jerome Ford. The high-energy start comes as somewhat of a surprise given how these two defenses have ranked atop the AAC in most major categories. Of the 29 offensive snaps in the first quarter, 11 were explosive plays, and there have been only two combined incompletions.
Prior to kickoff, Cincinnati got good news on the College Football Playoff front with Baylor knocking off Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game. That makes the Bearcats' hold on No. 4 a little more secure, but not if they can't get the job done at home against Houston. CBS Sports will be with you the entire way updating this story with the latest scores, analysis and highlights from Houston at Cincinnati in the AAC Championship Game. Keep it locked here from kickoff through the final whistle.
