Ducks score four goals in second period, defeat Golden Knights - NHL.com

ANAHEIM -- The Anaheim Ducks scored four goals in the second period in a 6-5 win against the Vegas Golden Knights at Honda Center on Wednesday.

Six players scored for the Ducks (13-8-3), who have won three of four. Jamie Drysdale had a goal and an assist, Trevor Zegras and Sonny Milano each had three assists and Anthony Stolarz made 34 saves.

"We don't want to be a one-trick pony, that's for sure," Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said. "We can't just have it from one of our defensemen, or two of our defensemen and one of our lines. We have to find a way to consistently have different people on that scoreboard."

Mattias Janmark and Max Pacioretty each had a goal and an assist, and Robin Lehner made 28 saves for the Golden Knights (12-10-0), who have lost three of four.

"At the end of the night, you score four or five goals, you should win," Vegas coach Peter DeBoer said. "Our attention to detail defensively wasn't good enough."

Janmark scored the second straight shorthanded goal for the Golden Knights to cut it to 4-3 at 1:58 of the third period, but Drysdale scored off a rush to give Anaheim a 5-3 lead at 6:55, the third goal of the game by a Ducks defenseman.

Pacioretty followed with a power-play goal to make it 5-4 at 11:30. Vegas was awarded another man-advantage with 1:52 left, but Isac Lundestrom scored shorthanded into an empty net with 1:04 remaining for a 6-4 lead.

Reilly Smith scored with Lehner still pulled for an extra attacker with 29 seconds left for the 6-5 final.

"If you want to look at the positive side, I think today with shorthanded goals, and power-play goals and 6-on-5 goals, it's almost like we have to come up with a point," Janmark said. "But we don't, so we pretty much gave this one away."

Troy Terry scored his 15th goal of the season on a one-timer from Drysdale for a 1-0 lead at 4:21 of the second period.

"That first goal put us on our heels a little bit, and then you're playing from behind," DeBoer said.

Rickard Rakell made it 2-0 at 6:26 when he scored from the bottom of the right circle. Zegras and Milano had assists on the goal.

William Carrier finished a 3-on-1 following a save by Lehner to cut it to 2-1 at 8:23.

Josh Manson's centering pass went off Pacioretty's skate and past Lehner to make it 3-1 at 13:19.

"(Our forwards) are getting in front of the net," Manson said. "Look at my (goal) tonight; [Zegras] is right there in front of the net, presenting a stick, and the goalie's got to be a little bit distracted and it goes off a skate and in."

Hampus Lindholm scored on a point shot through traffic at 16:49 to extend the Ducks lead to 4-1.

Anaheim defensemen have scored 19 goals, second in the NHL behind the Colorado Avalanche (20), after scoring 18 in 56 games last season.

"It's something that we talked about coming into the year," Manson said. "We wanted to have our [defensemen] join the rush being the fourth man and creating that extra layer of offense."

Zach Whitecloud scored shorthanded to make it 4-2 with 12 seconds left in the second period.

NOTES: Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf did not play because of a lower-body injury sustained in the first period against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. Eakins did not have much of an update but said Getzlaf, who is Anaheim captain, is walking on his own. … Golden Knights forward Mark Stone left in the third period after sliding into the wall but was able to return. ... Vegas scored four goals on special teams for the third time in four games. ... Terry has 15 goals in 23 games after scoring 15 in his first 129 NHL games over the previous three seasons. .... Zegras has scored 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in the past nine games.
