Weather Alert - Hurricane Larry | US Consulate General in Bermuda - US Consulate General

Weather Alert — HURRICANE LARRY: The Bermuda Weather Service (http://www.weather.bm) and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) (https://www.nhc.noaa.gov) continue to monitor Hurricane Larry.  Per the Bermuda Weather Service, regardless of Larry’s exact track, it is certain that large swells will be building, with hazardous seas developing by the end of the holiday weekend that become dangerous surf into next week.  Likewise, NHC reports significant ocean swells generated by Larry’s growing wind field are expected to reach Bermuda on Monday and Tuesday.  These swells could cause life-threatening rip currents and high surf conditions.  A further NHC update notes that Larry will continue moving across the central Atlantic in the coming days, and be approaching Bermuda from the Southeast in the 4 to 5 day forecast period.  Larry is forecast to approach Bermuda during the next several days, possibly as a major hurricane, bringing a risk of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and coastal flooding to the island by the middle of next week.  While it is too soon to determine the magnitude of these hazards and potential impacts on Bermuda, interests there should monitor changes to the forecast during the next several days.

Actions to Take:  All U.S. citizens living in, visiting, or traveling to Bermuda should monitor local weather reports and follow directions from local officials.

This is good reminder that the Atlantic Hurricane Season continues through November.  We urge U.S. citizens residing in, visiting, or traveling to Bermuda to prepare for hurricane season and to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (https://step.state.gov/step/) so we can provide you with regular updates and better assist you in an emergency.  Your safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us.  As approaching storms threaten the island, we will send messages with forecast updates and further safety instructions.
