In a defensive-fueled first half, the visiting Raiders took a 9-7 halftime lead over the Steelers. Daniel Carlson's 46-yard field goal was the only score of the first quarter as the Raiders led. The field goal was set up by Trayvon Mullen's interception off of Ben Roethlisberger on Pittsburgh's second offensive possession. Carlson added to the Raiders' lead with a 33-yard field goal after the Steelers failed to convert on a fourth-and-4 play at the start of the second quarter.
JuJu Smith-Schuster scored the game's first touchdown on a 3-yard jet sweep on Pittsburgh's fourth possession with 6:25 left until halftime. The score was set up by Roethlisberger's 41-yard completion to Diontae Johnson and a 14-yard run by Najee Harris. Las Vegas countered with a 13-play drive that ended with Carlson's third field goal of the half, a 41-yarder that gave the Raiders the lead at intermission.
The Steelers lost defensive lineman Tyson Alualu and outside linebacker T.J. Watt to injuries during the first half. Alualu will not return after suffering an ankle injury in the first quarter. Watt is questionable to return after sustaining a groin injury during the second quarter.
