Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet is partnering with a Duluth-based green housing nonprofit to offer public courses about building zero-energy homes.
Anyone is welcome to register for the four two-hour courses that will be held every Tuesday evening, beginning Oct. 14. at FDLTCC.
"In a perfect world, we would get people trained and then started on building these homes," FDLTCC Director of Workforce Development & Continuing Education Jeannie Kermeen said.
The housing organization partnering to offer the courses is Green New Deal Housing, founded by attorney and former Duluth city councilor Greg Gilbert and green design building expert Rachel Wagner.
The organization works to develop a "green-collar" workforce and zero-energy homes in Northeastern Minnesota. The homes don't burn fossil fuels and get most of their electricity from renewable energy.
People who might benefit from the course include people in the building trades, such as constructors, builders and remodelers, or even homeowners interested in making their homes more efficient.
Green New Deal Housing is also providing an exhibit on campus that features a model of their "Evergreen House."

- The course costs $299.95 for people in the building trades who want continuing education credits or $249.95 for anyone else who wants to take the course.
