Blue Jay Roundup: Cross country battles Hi-Liners on home course - The Jamestown Sun

JAMESTOWN — Ken Gardner had to be pretty happy with how the Jamestown High School boys cross-country team performed Friday afternoon.

Senior Ethan Igl led the field of 15 varsity runners, crossing the finish line at 18 minutes, 19 seconds.

Teammate Jack Schauer was two seconds behind Igl, to collect the No. 2 spot. Jamestown won the Jamestown/Valley City dual collecting only 18 points while Valley City's two varsity runners combined for 68 total points.

Jamestown took 9 of the top-10 spots.

On the girls side, it was Valley who took the dual winning it 15-47. Jamestown is slated to be back on the trails on Sept. 8 at Aberdeen Central. The meet is slated to begin at 3 p.m.

Layna Hoffer led the Blue Jay girls. The eighth grader placed sixth with a time of 22:41 while senior Jera Truax placed eighth with a time of 23:50.

Swimming ties, defeats Grand Forks schools

Chea Baugh swam her way to a state swim meet berth the opening meet of her 2022 swim season.

Baugh, a senior, for the Blue Jay swimming and diving team, cruised to a first-place finish in the 200 yard individual medley Friday evening in the Jays' duals against Grand Forks Red River and Grand Forks Central.

The Jays defeated Red River 103-78 and tied with Central 88-88. The Jays will be in action again on Aug. 27 hosting Fargo Davies. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

Baugh also placed first in the 100 yard butterfly. She was also a member of the Jays' 200 yard freestyle relay.

Zoe Bjerke wound up on top of the 1-meter diving podium, coming up with 192.5 points while Julia Skari took second prize with 172.95 points.
