The Mets pulled out a victory on Wednesday night as they knocked off the lowly Rockies by a score of 3-1. Jacob deGrom returned to the mound for the first time in over two weeks and Tomás Nido hit a big two-run homer to put the Mets ahead to end the team’s three game losing streak.
deGrom looked almost as good as he could against the worst team in baseball, with the only real blemish being a solo homer by Ryan McMahon in the second inning. He struck out nine over five innings of work, allowing just the one run on three hits. The Mets pulled him after just 63 pitches as they ease him back from injury.
The Mets eked out a run in the first inning on a James McCann ground out, and the game was tied at 1-1 until Nido’s home run in the sixth put them up 3-1. The Mets had some other opportunities, but couldn’t push across any more runs. They left the bases loaded in the 8th and made three outs on the bases.
The bullpen held the Rockies to four hitless innings behind deGrom, as the Mets’ pitching continues to bail the team out. The Mets stay in first place for one more day.
