JAGS SCORE 11 RUNS IN WIN DURING DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT AT NKU - IUPUI Jaguars

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – IUPUI softball had big days from some freshmen as the Jags split a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky on Friday (April 23). The Jags took the first game 11-1 in five innings before falling 2-1 in game two.

IUPUI 11 – Northern Kentucky 1 F/5
IUPUI scored a season-high 11 runs and pounded out 12 hits as the Jags took care of game one against Northern Kentucky in five innings. Tori Sivert tallied career-highs with three hits and two RBI and Kasie Keyes also had career-highs with two hits and four RBI. Jennah Speth had three hits while driving in two and Morgan Gilbert also drove in a run.

The Jags opened up the scoring in the second in after the first three batters of the frame reached base. Rachael Gregory drove home Ryleigh Marsh on a sac fly and after walk, Gilbert hit a sac fly to make the score 2-0.

In the third, Jennah Speth and Hailey Pop singled to start the inning and two batters later, Keyes doubled down the left field line to bring home both runs. Sivert singled up the middle to score Keyes to make it 5-0 in the next at bat. After a single by Gregory and a fly out, Gilbert singled to right to score Sivert.

The Jags picked up another run in the fourth after Sivert singled home Hailey Pop, who had walked earlier in the inning.

Up 7-1 going in to the fifth, Jaida Speth doubled to start the inning and moved to third on a groundout. After a walk and stolen base, Jenna Speth doubled to bring home both runs and make the score 9-1. With two outs, Keyes delivered another big hit with a single to left, bringing home Pop and Lauren Youngblood.

Northern Kentucky got two runners on in the fifth but could not bring anyone across as IUPUI ended the game early.

Lexi Lucas got the win with three innings in relief, allowing just two hits and not giving up a run. Bailey Johnson got the start, going two innings with one earned run on four hits.

Northern Kentucky 2 – IUPUI 1
Morgan Gilbert and Rachael Gregory each had two hits and IUPUI finished with eight hits but the Jags managed just one run, leaving seven runners on base, in a 2-1 loss in game two.
IUPUI had runners on second and third with only one out in the first but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.

Northern Kentucky scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the inning, scoring on an error after a walk and single. Jennah Speth got out of the jam with three-straight strikeouts to end the inning.

The Jags tied the game in the second as Sivert, Gregory and Jaida Speth all singled to load the bases. Lauren Younblood hit a sac fly to score Sivert but Gregory was thrown out at third to end the inning.

A groundout in the third scored NKU's second run of the game, which turned out to be the winning run.

UP NEXT
IUPUI and Northern Kentucky will finish up its four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday (April 25).
