Intercom - Summer Session II Online Course (WRITING INTENSIVE and DIVERSITY DESIGNATED) - Open to all majors -- CRN #10088 - Ithaca College

TVR 33500-01 ELECTRONIC MEDIA CRITICISM is a three-credit media studies course on the representation of race, gender, gender identity, and sexuality in classical and contemporary American TV programming. 

ELECTRONIC MEDIA CRITICISM is designed to cultivate your critical thinking and writing skills by analyzing the current cultural state of American television programming in regards to the medium's representation of the racial and sexual "other" and the treatment of historical and contemporary social and political issues, including the Feminist movement, Black Lives Matter, the #MeToo Movement, and the Transgender rights movement. 

The screening list includes episodes of ATLANTA, INSECURE, POSE, DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, BLACK-ISH, FRESH OFF THE BOAT, THE GEORGE LOPEZ SHOW, JANE THE VIRGIN, FATHER KNOWS BEST, PARKS AND RECREATION, GIRLS, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, THE MINDY PROJECT, WARRIOR and ONE DAY AT A TIME. 

The course is offered Summer Session II, July 5-August 6. The class meetings are Mondays and Thursdays, 1 PM - 4:30 PM (ET). ELECTRONIC MEDIA CRITICISM fulfills the ICC requirements for WRITING INTENSIVE and DIVERSITY.

Stephen Tropiano is the director of the Ithaca College Los Angeles Program and a professor of screen studies in the Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies department in the Park School of Communications.
