Way-too-early 2020 score predictions: Alabama vs. Georgia - 247Sports

We don’t know what football season will look like, but we at BamaOnLine will continue to try to speak it into existence. Our latest attempt is this 8-week breakdown of every SEC game on Alabama’s 2020 schedule. We begin with the last game on the Crimson Tide’s regular-season slate, Auburn, and count down to the highly-anticipated Week 3 matchup with Georgia.

To cap Georgia week, here’s a look at the BamaOnLine staff’s way-too-early score predictions for Alabama’s Week 3 home game against the Bulldogs (Sept. 19 in Tuscaloosa).

Charlie Potter: Alabama 31, Georgia 21

The build-up to this game will be insane, especially now that Scott Cochran will be on the other sideline. But we all know Nick Saban versus his former assistants is only a storyline -- what really matters is what takes place on the field. Georgia will have the best defense Alabama will face in 2020, but what the Crimson Tide returns on offense is also impressive. On the other hand, how much UA’s defense limits the UGA offense will be equally key in this one. I see the Crimson Tide’s young edge rushers and secondary making enough plays in this one.

Travis Reier: Alabama 26, Georgia 19

Lines of scrimmage in this one won’t be for the faint of heart. With that, quarterback play will be at a premium. Here’s guessing Alabama’s will have a few more weapons with which to work and that will ultimately prove to be the difference.

Kirk McNair: Alabama 38, Georgia 24

Everything points to the third Saturday in September as being one of the most important games in 2020 college football, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is going to be a close game. Georgia has had its chances lately and been found wanting in the clutch. The mastery of the teacher (Nick Saban) over the student (all of them, including Kirby Smart) continues.

Hank South: Alabama 35, Georgia 28

One of the most highly anticipated regular-season games in recent times, the 2020 edition of Alabama vs. Georgia could be another memorable showdown. There’s too much talent on each sideline for the game to be too lopsided in either team’s favor, but the Crimson Tide, in my opinion, has too much offensive firepower back, even for a veteran defense like Georgia’s to contain. Plus, you have to take into consideration UGA will have a new quarterback under center in what could be a hostile road environment depending on fans’ ability to attend games this fall. This game has favorable makeup when it comes to UA’s chances.

Tim Watts: Alabama 22, Georgia 19

In what will be billed as the game of the season, Georgia travels to Tuscaloosa for what will be an emotionally-charged atmosphere. The Tide’s high-powered offense against the Dawgs’ physically-talented defense will be the matchup to watch for most, but how the young UA defense rises to the occasion will determine the outcome. Bama wins a close one at home.

Now, what do you guys think?
