Sick sailor dropped off in Bermuda - Royal Gazette

A massive cargo ship was today forced to divert to Bermuda after a crewman complained of stomach problems.

The Panamanian-registered Newseas Jade, en route from Russia to Port Manatee in Florida, dropped off the 32-year-old Chinese sailor this morning.

The sick man was transferred to the Marine & Ports pilot boat St David, delivered to shore and taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The ship’s captain alerted authorities on the island when the ship was about 575 miles north west of the island.

The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre, which coordinated the mercy mission, said strict Covid-19 precautions were taken throughout the transfer operation.
