Owensboro Community & Technical College is offering two online social work courses for the fall semester.
Intro to Social Services is a three-credit-hour course with a lab and provides an overview of the programs and challenges faced by professionals in the field. The second course — called The Family — is a three-hour course that examines the dynamics of and alternative constructs of families.
“While we do not offer social work as a degree, we are happy to be able to get the entry-level courses offered locally by experienced professionals,” said Veena Sallan, Chief Academic Officer. “These courses will transfer to Brescia or WKU, so students are able to maximize their options.”

The courses are taught by Cori Douglas and Amanda Greenwell, both currently licensed and working in the field.
Douglas is currently serving as the clinical supervisor for Sunrise Children’s Services and is a part-time therapist at St Joe’s Peace Mission.
Greenwell is currently serving Owensboro Health Regional Hospital as a therapist and project manager for the Intensive Outpatient Program. Prior to this she served as an outpatient therapist at River Valley Behavioral Health and was a member of the Forensic Evaluation Team.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer these opportunities to our students, said Scott Williams, OCTC President. “The courses are offered by practicing professionals and set the students up well toward a career path in social work.”
