Lee Rizzuto Rejected as New US Consul USA in Bermuda

Hamilton, Jun 3 (Prensa Latina) Groups of protesters in the capital of Bermuda rejected the appointment of a collaborator of the U.S. president as consul general in this territory under British rule, the Royal Gazette reported this Wednesday.

The protest also denounced the murder by asphyxiation 10 days ago of the African-American George Floyd in the U.S. city of Minneapolis at the hands of a police officer.

The participants in the demonstration repudiated the appointment, still pending approval, of Lee Rizzuto, who donated nearly half a million dollars to the political action committee of Donald Trump's presidential campaign, according to the Royal Gazette.

He also shared on social networks 'conspiracy theories and unfounded attacks' on the current president's political opponents in the run-up to the 2016 elections.

Prior to his current nomination for Bermuda, Rizzuto was rejected by the U.S. Senate for a diplomatic post in Barbados.

His reappointment and the racial justice issues in his country after Floyd's death in police custody are 'sides of the same coin,' said social activist and protest organizer Kristin White, according to the local newspaper.
