HAWKINS – It’s called The Intimidator Golf Course, and nestled just outside of Hawkins.
But it’s a nine-hole course providing a lot of fun for golfers including those participating in the Thursday evening Men’s League.
This marks the 18th year of the course.
Bruce Williams lives near the course and is secretary of an 18-team two-man league.
“We have a wide variety of golfers here of all handicaps and skills,” he said. “We’re on our fourth week. We’ll go until the first of October. That’s when bow season starts and everybody wants to clear out of here. They want to hunt. The problem with September is the sunlight in the day ends earlier.”
Players come from Reed City, Big Rapids, Paris, Baldwin and other areas.
It’s a par 35 course.

“It’s tough, it’s very challenging,” Williams said. “It’s tight as far as the trees, it’s not a cow pasture, let’s put it that way.”
Bruce Root has played at the course 14 years and plays at the course six days a week.
“I’ve played almost every course around here,” he said, referring to Marquette Trails in Baldwin, Spring Valley in Reed City and Katke in Big Rapids. “This is the toughest course around. It’s like Target Golf.”
