Leslie to bring strong winds

Strong winds are expected over the next three days as a result of Tropical Storm Leslie.

The storm is forecast to re-intensify as a hurricane on Tuesday but should not come within 600 miles of Bermuda.

However the Bermuda Weather Service warned north-northeasterly winds on the island will become strong by this evening, and approach gale force throughout tomorrow and Tuesday.

Seas will be moderate to rough today, and moderate to very rough throughout tomorrow and Tuesday.

A Small Craft Warning is in place and is expected to remain until Wednesday.

Leslie was not listed as a threat to the island today, and its closest approach in the next three days is expected to be on Tuesday at 9am when it will be 620 miles to the east of the island. At noon today, Leslie was 710 miles to the east-northeast of Bermuda, packing winds of 52mph and gusts of 63mph. It was moving southwest at about 3mph.

A BWS spokesman said at noon: “Leslie is not expected to become a threat to Bermuda, however, above strong to near gale winds and rough to very rough seas with northeasterly swells are expected from Leslie.”
