WOODSFIELD — All Monroe Central needed was three outs Friday. The Seminoles got them too late.
River trailed 14-5 entering the top of the seventh inning at Monroe Park, but the Pilots navigated their way to 10 runs in the inning to collect an improbable, 15-14, high school baseball victory over the stunned hosts.
Jake Rose led the winners attack with a pair of doubles and home run that chased in four runs. Carter Dennis and River Thompson each drove in a trio of runs, with Thompson having a pair of singles. Brody Lollathin stroked two singles and a double to knock in a run and Elijah Wayt had three singles and a run batted in.
Wayt, the fifth River pitcher, earned the win.
Westin Swallow drove in two runs for the Seminoles with a single and home run. xxx Lydick also went deep and knocked in three runs, while Auston Hogue singled thrice and plated a run. Wade Stoehr drove in three runs with two base hits. Michael Bunning singled twice and drove in a pair. Xavier Kinney had a two-run single.
Barnesville 11, Bridgeport 2
AT BROOKSIDE, Jaxon Wiley will remember his first varsity start on the mound as the freshman hurled six innings, striking out seven and walking none on the Niekro Diamond.
Ayden Hannahs swung the hot bat for the Shamrocks with two singles and a double that knocked in two runs. Jeremy Hunkler singled and accounted for three ribbies, while Gavin Carpenter had a two-run single. Kason Powell singled thrice and Spencer Bliss had a single and double.
The Bulldogs had four singles.
Indian Creek 6, Harrison Central 5
AT MINGO, the Redskins broke a 5-all deadlock with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Huskies were led by Kobe Mitchell with a two-run single. Treston Nemeth singled in another run.

Harrison Central 11, Indian Creek 9
AT WINTERSVILLE, the Huskies (12-2) ran their winning streak to five games and swept the regular-season matchups with the Redskins.
Lizzy Clelland singled and doubled twice for the winners. Britton Positano cracked four singles and had two RBI. Maddie Butler had a single, double and RBI while Lexi Ferguson, Jenna Young and winning pitcher Tristen Kovarik all had two-run singles.
Bellaire 9, St. Clairsville 6
AT ST. CLAIRSVILLE, the Big Reds also earned a regular-season sweep of the host Red Devils.
Jayden Lowe singled three times to drive in three runs while Lizzie McAninch singled, tripled and drove in one. Kaylin Brown had an RBI double and Gianna Schmidt a run-scoring single.
Dekotah Namack and Abby Salisbury each singled, homered and drove in a run for St. Clairsville. Emily Dubinsky had a pair of doubles and two RBI.
Grace Maupin fanned seven in six innings to pick up the win. Lowe earned the save.
River 8, Barnesville 7
AT SARDIS, the Pilots (9-2) used Katie Rufener’s grand slam in the second inning to slip past the visiting Shamrocks (2-13).
Josie Reed singled three times and tripled for River. Rylee Knight doubled in a run and Hannah Raper singled and doubled.
Maddie Schaffer, Ellie Thompson and Emma Gibbons each singled, doubled and drove in a run for Barnesville. Olivia Starr singled and doubled.
Katie Lively struck out 10, walked no one and scattered a dozen hits.
Fort Frye 15, Union Local 10
AT BEVERLY, the Jets led 8-6 entering the home half of the fifth when the Cadets tallied seven times to rally for the win.
Keira Gregor singled twice, doubled and drove in two runs for Union Local. Marissa McGary singled thrice to plate a run and Torre Kildow singled twice and doubled.
