Hideki Matsuyama played some really great golf on Sunday in the final round of the Masters and was able to hold off the field and make history by becoming the first man from Japan to win a major championship.
His victory ended up being just by a stroke after a bogey on 18 but his lead was never really in jeopardy during the final round.
Matsuyama, who had the Tokyo TV broadcast feeling a range of emotions throughout the day, got teary eyed shortly after sinking his final putt. His caddie was emotional, too, as he turned and bowed toward the course after putting in the pin on 18.
This was awesome:
Hideki Matsuyama’s caddie, Shota Hayafuji, removes the flag and returns the pin, then bows. His guy is the first Asian-born player to win the Masters.
Awesome moment. pic.twitter.com/tpXoJYM3n7

I teared up watching Hideki Matsuyama’s caddie respectfully take off his cap and bow out of respect for #TheMasters as he replaced the pin flag. 😭 #HidekiMatsuyama #Masters2021 #MastersSunday #Japan pic.twitter.com/fPEUWsff2Z

Not gonna lie… Seeing Hideki emotional and the flagless pole being returned to the cup with a bow by his caddie, I'm choked up… Beautiful moment! #TheMasters

That caddie bow was awesome.
Hope someone got that photo.

I thought the shot of his caddie replacing the pin, removing his hat and giving the most respectful, sincere, slightest of grateful bows up the fairway was just lovely. So happy for this outcome, and for another deserved first in this world!!!

That was pretty boring, but his tearing up & the caddie bow got me. I love when someone new wins the Masters! #sports
