STATS OF THE GAME:
-Smith opened the scoring just two minutes into the game and Makena Filley would net the second goal of the game. However, the Bears would be held scoreless for almost 13 minutes before Alyssa Sack ended the scoring drought.
-A free position goal would cut the deficit to 6-4 before the Wolves scored with seven seconds left in the first half to take a 7-4 lead into the break.
-The Bears surged out of the gates to start the second half, scoring the first seven goals. Smith scored three times in that spurt and Lehman netted a pair.
-Newberry closed the gap to 13-12 with 10:48 to play but Frances Williams scored a huge free position goal to put LR up two.
-The Wolves wouldn't go away and scored two straight to make it 15-14 but LR scored the last three of the game to come away with the win.
-Catheen Gaffney stepped up in the final 4:13, scoring once and adding a pair of assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
-Lenoir-Rhyne is now 11-0 all-time against Newberry but the 4-goal margin of victory was tied for the smallest margin of victory in the history of the matchup.
-This was the sixth win for the Bears on Newberry's home turf.
-Teanna Sieben made nine saves to earn her third win of the season.
-Isabelle Dunnam and Liz Black each had three caused turnovers for LR.
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will return to action on Monday when they host No. 13 Limestone at 6 p.m.
