Privacy will be the topic of a keynote speech at the annual meeting luncheon of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

Mark Thompson, global privacy lead for KPMG International, and Chris Eaton, cybersecurity lead for KPMG Islands Group, will give a joint presentation at the meeting, which is being held in the Harbourview Ballroom at the Hamilton Princess.

The luncheon will focus on privacy and how it is a business issue that impacts sales, marketing IT, finance and human resources.

The Chamber is inviting business professionals from all industries to attend the event to learn more about privacy and what it means for Bermuda.

In a statement, the Chamber said: “Those who attend can expect to hear an insightful discussion on the global privacy landscape with practical examples of what is happening across a wide range of industries such as retail, government, healthcare, utilities, travel and transportation. It is time to think beyond compliance and build a data aware culture within your organisation — regardless of industry and size.”

Kendaree Burgess, executive director, said: “With Bermuda’s move to position itself as a significant financial technology centre, we anticipate that this subject will bring forth an insightful discussion as privacy affects every member of the local business community.”

While Stephen Woodward, managing director of KPMG Bermuda and head of Bermuda’s enterprise practice, said: “It is always exciting when one of KPMG’s global leaders visits the island, and we welcome Mark Thompson to Bermuda and look forward to his keynote address.

“With Bermuda’s own Personal Information Protection Act due to become effective later in 2018, Mark’s views on the global privacy landscape and data awareness will be of interest for all businesses in Bermuda”.

The luncheon event is from 12.30pm to 2pm on Thursday and is open to members and non-members of the Chamber. However, the Chamber’s annual meeting, which will be from noon to 12.30pm, is only open to current members.
