Bermuda Draws In CONCACAF Qualifier Opener

Bermuda played to a draw in the Women’s CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers opener against Guyana, with the match ending with a score of 2-2.

Bermuda’s opening game saw them take on the host country, with the starting line up including Micah Pond, Victoria Davis, Marley Christian, K’shaela Burch-Waldron, Akeyla Furbert, Khyla Brangman, Deshae Darrell, Teyah Lindo, Jade Steede-Hill, Keunna Dill, and Jade Stewart, along with substitutes Chelsea Harvey, Ember Butterfield, Eva Frazzoni, Symira Lowe-Darrell, Zakiyah Durham, Taznae Fubler, Ranyi Maybury, and Precious Smith.

Bermuda took the lead in the seventh minute when Lindo scored, hitting a long range rifle right-footed shot from about 30 yards out that the Guyana goalkeeper Natalie Nedd had no answer for.

However, the home side quickly responded two minutes later via midfielder Brianne Desa.

Lindo would put Bermuda back in front in the 17th minute, testing Nedd once again with a free kick, but the Guyana number one couldn’t protect her near-post from the shot that came from about 28 yards out on the left side of the field.

The remainder of the half saw the match go back and forth, with Guyana playing the long ball looking for a break.

Bermuda spent the half holding the ball, trying to keep possession. In the end, the teams went to the break with Bermuda holding the lead.

The second half was much like the first, with Guyana looking to counter attack, and Cameo Hazlewood finally found the back of the net in the 58th minute to equalize, which was received with much jubilation from the scores of fans and extra coaches in the bleachers.
