Bermuda launches RFQ for $75m cargo port

Bermuda has launched a request for qualification (RFQ) for companies to build a $75m international cargo port on the island.

The Bermuda Land Development Co (BDLC) is requesting that local and international companies submit their qualifications to develop a cargo port at a 12ha site at Ships Wharf. BDLC overseas the development of land and buildings previously occupied by US and Canadian military forces.

“The establishment of an international cargo port will increase capacity and improve Bermuda’s ability to offer potential services like international transhipping services and fish processing,” BDLC said.

The self-governing British Overseas Territory in the Atlantic is an offshore financial centre and home to a number of shipowners and insurers to the industry.

The proposed cargo port is expected to exceed $75m and companies that qualify to be shortlisted will be invited to submit full proposals by end 2018. The RFQ closes on 29 June 2018 and details can be found at www.bldc.bm.
