Keep Bermuda Beautiful urged Christmas Day revellers to help ensure Elbow Beach stays litter free.

Thousands of people will head to the South Shore spot on Christmas morning for one of the island’s most popular festive and family-friendly events.

KBB is not directly involved with the gathering, but has helped with waste management over the years, providing trash and recycling bins and bags in partnership with the Government’s parks and waste management teams.

KBB also coordinates a post-event clean-up on Boxing Day, which requires dozens of volunteers and typically results in the removal of more than a ton of trash and recyclables from the beach.

Parking for beachgoers on Christmas Day will be behind the pickleball courts at the Horizons and Cottages property.

Parking is provided at no cost by the Coral Beach and Tennis Club, but volunteers on site will assist with parking and charitable donations are welcome.

KBB thanked volunteers and said Christmas attendees typically tidied up.

The charity added: “The potential for littering is significantly reduced when beachgoers do their part to reduce, reuse and recycle.”

Dozens of extra trash and recycling bins will be placed on Elbow Beach on Christmas Eve.

Blue recycling bins are for tin, aluminium and glass only. All other waste, including paper and plastic products, goes in the red trash bins.

Revellers can also take personal waste home.

The Boxing Day clean-up involving the waste management crews, the Parks Department, Wilmot’s Trucking and KBB volunteers will be held from 10am to noon on Boxing Day.

Volunteers can sign up on the KBB website.
